CALIFORNIA CALZONE
INGREDIENTS

½ cup Low-fat Friendship Cottage Cheese
2 oz. part skim Sorrento mozzarella cheese, shredded
1 Tbs. low-fat Parmesan cheese
1 egg white
1 tsp. oregano
1 low-fat cooked chicken Italian sausage, sliced in ¼ “ pieces
½ small onion
½ green pepper
1 clove of garlic
1 tsp. olive oil
2 large plum tomatoes
1 large Sahara whole-wheat pita, cut in half ( 2 pieces)
1 cup prepared spaghetti/marinara sauce



DIRECTIONS
1. Blend cottage cheese, Parmesan, 1 oz. of mozzarella, garlic, and egg white until smooth

2. Sauté onion, peppers, garlic and tomatoes in olive oil until onion becomes translucent.

3. Slice pita pocket in half.

4. Divide cottage cheese mixture equally and scoop into pita halves.

5. Divide vegetable/sausage mixture equally and place in pitas on top of cottage cheese mixture.

6. Sprinkle remaining mozzarella cheese on top of pita pockets and carefully stand pockets upright in a narrow baking pan.

7. Bake uncovered for 15 minutes at 350 degrees. Serve with warm marinara/spaghetti dipping sauce
